Re-implanted dental implant. Clinical case
A dental implant had migrated into the maxillary sinus
Penetration of a foreign body (implant) into the maxillary sinus
Surgery to extract the implant with simultaneous placement of a new one
The surgery to extract the implant and place a new one took 1 hour
A doctor from another dental clinic came to us with their patient. During implant placement on the upper jaw at that clinic, the implant had penetrated into the maxillary sinus. This happened due to an incorrectly selected implant size and its improper placement.
Of course, we accepted this patient on the same day and performed the removal of the implant from the anatomical structure of the maxillary sinus with its revision. In fact, we performed a sinus lift (maxillary sinusotomy) procedure, since during the implant removal the patient was found to have chronic odontogenic sinusitis with damage to the mucous membrane of the maxillary sinus.
Our maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Osadchyi, based on the CT scan results, developed a surgical plan for extracting the foreign body from the maxillary sinus with simultaneous implant replacement.
The surgery was performed to extract the foreign body, revise and treat the maxillary sinus, and immediately place a new implant of the appropriate size.
Surgery time: 1 hour.
The patient fully recovered within 5 days. That is, after 5 days the patient experienced no discomfort. And within 2 months we will proceed to implant-supported prosthetics.
Two months after the implantation, dental prosthetics with metal-ceramic crowns were performed. As a result, the patient received functional and aesthetically attractive teeth.
